FUD Vegan Restaurant - Westside
/FUD is an experience. You won't find starched linens or fine china. It is authentic. In fact, you'll need to bring cash or a check because they don't accept credit cards. Go to FUD for some amazing vegan concoctions and some seriously nice people. FUD isn't polished, but that might be the point.
FUD is a hippie oasis. Complete with rainbows, vegan mac and cheese and cashew ice cream, this little diner serves Kansas City's vegan and vegetarian eaters with creative and authentic options.
The idea behind FUD is to take traditional comfort foods and create them out of all vegan, local and organic ingredients. This makes for an extremely creative and fresh menu with lots of unexpected dishes.
Blake and Bethany decided to try the vegan Jack Reuben and BBQ sandwich. FUD uses jakfruit, a fruit from a tree in the mulberry family, as a meat substitute. The sandwiches were surprisingly delicious and filling. According to our waitress jakfruit is one of the many things that makes FUD a destination for vegan eaters.
Taylor tried the Portebella Wrap with sautéed portabella mushrooms, veggies and a cheddar sauce made from goji nuts.
I tried the Sea Salad with seaweed, quinoa, lettuce, avocados and a sauce made from sunflower seeds. It bright and light.
The highlight of our time at FUD was of course dessert. The milkshakes are made from cashews and sweetened with agave. We tried both the Chocolate and Vanilla milkshakes with cacao nibs.
